About

Named one of IndieWire’s “Directors to Watch” in 2015, Andrew Cividino is an award-winning director hailing from Toronto, Canada. Over the past 10 years, Andrew’s talent for rich, visual storytelling and nuanced characters have propelled him onto the international stage. After graduating from Ryerson University’s prestigious Film Studies program, he continued honing his craft directing short films, garnering international acclaim for his films WE ATE THE CHILDREN LAST, YELLOW FISH, and SLEEPING GIANT. Andrew’s original concept for SLEEPING GIANT began as a short film that had its world premiere at Locarno in 2014, landing him with the coveted Jury Prize. After adapting the short into a feature-length film the following year, SLEEPING GIANT was selected to open the competition at the 2015 edition of Semaine de la Critique in Cannes, an honour Andrew shares with Wong Kar-wai, Jeff Nichols, and Alejandro González Iñárritu. The feature went on to win over a dozen awards, including Best First Feature Film at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, and played at over 60 festivals worldwide. SLEEPING GIANT secured distribution in over a dozen territories and maintains a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 90%.

Andrew was recently named TIFF's Artist in Residence and is participating in the prestigious FilmTwo Program at the Sundance Institute, and is a recipient of a REEL CANADA RBC Emerging Artist award. Andrew is currently directing for the latest season of CBC/POP’s SCHITT’S CREEK. He is also developing an adaptation of Nicolas Billon's FURIES for Rhombus Media, and Yann Martel's WE ATE THE CHILDREN LAST with Bell Media and his production company, Film Forge.
